Style Profile: Megan McKay
When I first met Megan and her shopping confidant, Mona, I was immediately captivated by their vivaciously fun spirits as well as their sophisticated and perfect personal styles. The two have such charmingly wonderful personalities, and their energy is absolutely infectious! I immediately wanted to be their friends and talk shop with them 24/7. I am so happy to have Megan as my first Style Profile as she is both an example of stellar personal style but also, has the most wonderful heart and amazing confidence which she graciously uses to encourage others. Enjoy!! xoxox
Name:
Megan McKay (Little Megs)
Decade in Life:
The roarin' late twenties.
Describe your personal style:
BOLD with spots of casualness. (I wore leggings and my Rebel Yell hoodie from Blush to the movie theater on Friday.... and I may or may not have been wearing a trucker hat too.)
Favorite Color and print to wear:
I love gray and red. Print.... stripes and floral and I like to wear them together!
Go to outfit for instant confidence and sophistication:
Great pair of jeans and a white t-shirt with a leather coat or trench. And of course a rockin' pair of heels or boots. Or my Nikes!
Signature scent:
Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede, Nirvana by Elizabeth & James (I have both! Mixing them is FUN!)
Most coveted piece in closet:
I had to think about this for a minute. I have a few pieces of jewelry- my Mother's wedding band from when my father and she were married. My grandmother gave me a ring that my Mother had given here over twenty years ago. It has her four older children's birthstones. A necklace was recently given to me from the sweetest lady in the World, Linda Barnett. She is like a mother to me! It's a gold necklace with little hearts on the chain and I wear it everyday. I never take it off.
Most lusted item you don’t own:
Oh gosh... I would really like to own a piece by Chanel. CLASSIC and perfect.
Top three favorite places to shop:
HerTern.... any consignment store.... NIKE.com
Favorite season and why:
You know I don't play favorites, sister friend! I think change is always good- and we get four seasons to shake up the year.
Film that best defines your personal style:
How about TV show? I LOVE Sex and the City. I love each of their styles and I think I mix all four in my wardrobe.
I never leave the home without:
CHAPSTICK and Gum.
I feel most beautiful in:
Nothing! (Seriously- It's taken me a long time to find myself- and to love myself. I have my friend Mona to thank for that!)
Fashion Icons:
Blake Mother Freakin Lively-could she be any more fabulous?! Bridget Bardot, Lady Gaga.
Five classic essentials you think every lady should own:
I think owning the love you have for yourself is as essential as any piece in a personal wardrobe! Confidence is key- when you love yourself, you can wear anything.
A classic watch, great pair of jeans, a go to pair of heels you can wear out dancing all night, and a hand-me-down piece from a family member that you cherish.
Designer worth checking out:
DOLCE VITA SHOES- great price, great fit, and amazing style.
Favorite website or periodical to lurke:
I have a Pinterest obsession. It's a problem. But I also like to keep myself informed. I check all news media outlets because I don't trust just one as they can be very biased. Msn.com, msnbc.com, foxnews.com, cnn.com, etc. I check everything. It is important to be informed especially as a young womanof the World. We are in a very interesting time!
Trend you wish never happened:
DOC MARTIN SANDALS. YUCK. Oh and remember the bang wave- hair spray the ish out of that, set it and go! Aqua-net.
Advice to those establishing personal style:
BE BOLD, BE BOLD, BE BRAVE. And wear what you feel most comfortable in. This is YOUR life- you live it for you. Not anyone else.
When in doubt:
Try it on. Clothes don't hang the same on a hangar they do on a person. We have CURVES. We are WOMEN. Try it on if you're questioning the style, the fit, the color. Also never trust a tag size! I have every size from XS-XXL in my closet. It's true- ask my friend Nikki.
Never be afraid to:
Trust your gut. IN ALL THINGS. Trust your gut on the purse you want to buy but don't 110% love it. Trust your gut with relationships, with work, everything.
